Abstract
The purpose of my study is a reflection on the importance of names’ role to explain two tales: William Wilson by Edgar A. Poe and Lejana by Julio Cortázar. Poe was a model for Cortázar. These tales show some similarities: they explore the theme of the double and both give prominence to the names of characters. The name of the main protagonist of Poe’s tale helps to understand the doubling of the character’s consciousness (Will-I-am, Will-son). In Lejana, instead, the protagonist Alina Reyes makes up a duplicate of herself with an anagram of her own name.
