Strategies of Onomastic Masking in Althénopis by Fabrizia Ramondino
Published 2026-10-06
Abstract
This article examines the onomastic strategies deployed in Fabrizia Ramondino’s Althénopis. Through analysis of both anthroponymy and toponymy, it reveals how character and place names are frequently omitted, distorted, or replaced throughout the narrative. The study explores the narrative and symbolic significance of these choices, demonstrating how they function in constructing character identity and shaping spatial representation. Ultimately, the paper illustrates how such techniques negotiate the intricate interplay between autobiographical authenticity and narrative invention.
